Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois
Blue Cross continues to offer health insurance plans both off and on the Health Insurance
Exchange in 2017. However, they made some major changes to their networks in 2016. They
no longer offer the large Blue PPO network to members purchasing individual or family
coverage on or off the Health Insurance Exchange. They offer the Blue Choice Preferred PPO in
2016. Blue Cross created a new HMO for 2016. They continue to offer the Blue Precision HMO
and they have added the BlueCare Direct HMO. The BlueCare Direct HMO consists of the eleven
Advocate Hospitals in the Chicagoland area. It is not necessary to select a Primary Care
Physician (PCP). Those who have coverage under the BlueCare Direct can see any Primary Care
Physician in the Advocate network of physicians but they still need referrals when seeing a
specialist. To see if your provider is in any of the three network check out this link

Blue Cross also offers dental coverage on and off the Exchange.
United HealthCare
United HealthCare stopped selling individual coverage to the under-65 market. UHC continues to
sell temporary health insurance, however temporary insurance may now cover an individual for 3
month periods. If you need coverage between jobs or if you missed Open Enrollment and need coverage
you can get a quote for Temporary Insurance by using the link above. Temporary insurance does
not cover pre-existing medical conditions or routine/wellness visits to your doctor.
